By Aaron Humes: The Public Service Union (PSU) has publicly complained in the past that Government spends too much on new vehicles for the Public Service.
Today it cited a contract between Car Guys Belize and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, Culture and Immigration for a pre-owned 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser VX made in March for a quarter million Belize dollars.
“Here is one of several Quarter of a Million Dollars reasons to smile. It’s called a mandate for USED Vehicles. Seeing is believing. Keep them coming Public Officers. Your children future depends on your willingness to stand against abuse of public resources and corruption. Let your conscience be your guide,” the Union wrote.
On the heels of an approved pay increase and restoration of increments, public officers and teachers are on the hunt on areas where the government can save money and earn more revenue for the country.
It is not known for which section of the Ministry the vehicle was procured. The contract was approved by CEO Amalia Mai and principal of Car Guys Said Perdomo.
It was recently noted that much of the Government fleet is equipped with GPS tracking that ensures there is no overuse or misuse of Government vehicles.
