By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The 2025 Boys’ U15 Elite Championship kicked off with a flourish over the weekend of June 27–28, marking a vibrant start to the Football Federation of Belize’s (FFB) nationwide tournament under its High-Performance Program. With nine regional teams fielding some of the country’s most promising young players, the competition promises intense rivalries through July 19.
Focusing on technical refinement, tactical discipline, and personal growth, the U15 Championship serves as a key developmental bridge for players aiming to join elite youth and senior football circles in Belize.
Opening Week: U15 Division Highlights
Friday, June 27 – FFB Stadium, Belmopan
Belize 5–3 Orange Walk
A high-scoring opener saw Belize’s Khalil Velasquez steal the show with four goals, striking in the 2nd, 24th, 60th, and 65th minutes. Jonathan Garay added a penalty (30’), rounding out a dominant display. Orange Walk found the net through Iker Martinez (7’) and a brace from Elon Castello (15’, 42’) but couldn’t match Belize’s attacking firepower.
Saturday, June 28 – Norman Broaster Stadium, San Ignacio
Cayo 3–3 Midsouth
This tightly contested match was a tale of surges and responses. Cayo’s Alen Obando scored twice (8’, 23’) and Albert Quintanilla added a goal in the 12th minute. But Midsouth, led by Solmin Sanders (21’, 65’) and Joseph Ruiz (25’), clawed back to earn a thrilling draw.
Saturday, June 28 – Carl Ramos Stadium, Dangriga
Stann Creek 5–1 Belmopan
Stann Creek roared into the tournament with a commanding performance. Jayan Avila netted a brace (11’, 35’), Ellis Carillo followed suit (43’, 56’), and Keshawn McDonald (64’) capped the scoring. Ethan Vargas gave Belmopan a brief lifeline in the 12th minute, but it wasn’t enough to stem the tide.
