By Aaron Humes: Erynne Belezaire, 26, was visibly shocked on Friday when her bail application was denied in the High Court. Belezaire is accused of attacking and stabbing another woman during an incident at Digi Park on April 11.
The High Court Justice ruled against granting her bail after the prosecution strongly objected, citing concerns over the seriousness of the attempted murder charge. Her attorney, Jaime Burns, argued that the evidence against her was weak. However, Justice Pilgrim stated that given the gravity of the charges, no special reasons had been demonstrated to him to warrant bail.
This is the second time Belezaire was denied bail; her initial request was refused in late September when she was charged with attempted murder, along with dangerous harm and using deadly means of harm. She remains remanded at Belize Central Prison.
The incident occurred around 3:40 a.m., outside Digi Park. Police investigations showed the altercation started after a night out at Thirsty Thursday night club, escalating into a physical fight in the park. Belezaire allegedly pulled out a knife during the fight.
Belezaire, the mother of a young toddler, is expected to return to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court for further proceedings at a date to be confirmed.
