By Rubén Morales Iglesias:  Lucas Alvarado, the talented young goalkeeper for Manchester City F.C.’s U15 and U17 teams, is currently visiting Belize, his father’s and grandmother’s homeland. Alvarado, who has Belizean roots through his father and grandmother, who are both from Benque Viejo del Carmen, visited the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) headquarters on Thursday and donned the Belize National Team jersey.

During his visit, Lucas and his parents met with FFB President Sergio Chuc and U16 Boys Head Coach Dale Pelayo.

“During their meeting, President Chuc discussed the FFB’s national team and developmental programs with Lucas and his parents,” the FFB said in a brief statement posted on social media.

“Earlier in the day, Lucas trained with the Belmopan U16 Selection at the FFB HQ under Coach Pelayo and his technical staff.”

In a previous visit, Alvarado played with Benque’s Zboys Football Club.

Alvarado’s visit to Belize hasn’t gone unnoticed by neighbouring Guatemala. The young goalkeeper, who also has Guatemalan roots through his paternal grandfather, who lives in Benque Viejo del Carmen, has attracted interest from the Guatemalan Football Federation, who had previously approached him, as well. Reports say they are keen on securing his services for their national juvenile teams, particularly as they prepare for the upcoming Concacaf U17 Championship in February 2025.

Young Alvarado also made a visit to Guatemala during his present stay in Belize.

The decision on which country to represent will ultimately rest with Lucas and his family. With eligibility to play for Belize, Guatemala, and England, where he was born, Lucas has several options to consider for his international football career.

Lucas’s visit to Belize has provided an opportunity for the FFB to showcase their programs and facilities.

As Lucas continues to develop his skills and make a name for himself in the football world, both Belize and Guatemala will be eagerly watching his progress and hoping to see him don their national colours in the future.
