>By Aaron Humes: A car washer who works behind the High Court building in downtown Belize City was convicted of smoking cannabis in public after being caught by police puffing marijuana behind the Court.
31-year-old Marshall Hinds of the Conch Shell Bay area, Belize City, pleaded guilty to smoking cannabis in public.
Hinds was fined $50 plus cost of court which he was given until March 28, 2024 to pay, in default, 1 week in jail.
Before leaving the court, the Magistrate gave Hinds a reminder, “You are free to smoke it (marijuana) [at] home but not in public.”
Possession of cannabis in public is limited to 10 grams or less and it remains illegal to cultivate or keep for personal use any amount greater than 10 grams.
