By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Orange Walk First Division football tournament has reached its highly anticipated semifinals, with four highly motivated teams qualifying: Yo Creek United, Mi Gente of Guinea Grass, San Jose Pumas, and San Estevan Soccer Team. The four teams advanced after the second leg of the quarterfinals held on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at the Louisiana Football Field in Orange Walk.

Yo Creek United and Progresso FC battled to a 2-2 draw, with Yo Creek United qualifying on a 4-3 aggregate score. Yo Creek United’s goals were scored by Liam Reyes in the 30th minute and Axel Alamilla in the 62nd minute. Progresso FC responded with two quick goals by Mark Bainton in the 75th and 78th minutes but came up short as Yo Creek had won the first game 2-1.

The clash between Mi Gente of Guinea Grass and Galacticos was equally intense, with Mi Gente ultimately winning 12-11 in a dramatic penalty shootout after a 3-3 aggregate score. Miguel Yco scored for Mi Gente in the 47th minute. The 1-0 score persisted until the 90th minute, extending the game into overtime. Denixon Gonzalez netted a goal for Galacticos in the 90+2 minute, but Deimer Narvaez scored for Mi Gente in the 105th minute. The 2-1 win by Mi Gente was similar to Galacticos’ victory in the previous match, sending the game into a penalty shootout.

San Jose Pumas fell 2-1 to Crystal FC but advanced on a 4-3 aggregate score by virtue of their 3-1 win in the previous game. Victor Novelo scored for San Jose Pumas in the 64th minute, but Crystal countered with goals by Ziderine Carcano in the 6th minute and Enziel Ramirez in the 72nd minute. The 2-1 Crystal victory, however, wasn’t enough to overturn the negative aggregate score.

In the fourth quarterfinal, San Estevan Soccer Team delivered a commanding performance with a 4-0 win over Trial Farm Legends. Complementing their 6-1 win in the first leg, San Estevan advanced on a 10-1 aggregate score. Bryan Marroquin scored in the 57th minute, Miguel Pren added two more goals in the 77th and 84th minutes, and Diego Chan sealed the 4-0 second leg victory with a goal in the 84th minute.

The semifinals are set for Sunday, December 1, at the Louisiana Football Field. The match schedule is as follows:

3:00 pm: San Jose Pumas vs. Mi Gente of Guinea Grass

5:00 pm: San Estevan Soccer Team vs. Yo Creek United
