By Breaking Belize News Staff: Brian Edward Audinett, better known as “Yellowman,” was convicted of aggravated assault upon a police officer on Friday after changing his plea to guilty when the court indicated he would likely receive a fine rather than jail time.

Audinett, 44, was fined $500 plus $5 cost of court and was given until October 31, 2026 to pay. In default, he will serve three months in prison.

The case had been scheduled for trial, but when the prosecution sought an adjournment because the magistrate handling the matter was unavailable, Audinett asked Senior Magistrate Mannon Dennison for a sentencing indication.

Audinett, who was unrepresented, told the court he was considering changing his plea but wanted to know what penalty he could face. He was informed that a conviction could attract up to five years in prison and/or a fine of up to $3,000, but the court indicated that, as a first-time offender, it was minded to impose a fine.

Audinett then pleaded guilty.

The charge arose from an incident on January 30, 2026, near the corner of King Street and Amara Avenue in Belize City.

According to the facts presented in court, a police constable was on special duty in uniform when a dispute developed between Audinett and a food vendor over whether he had paid for a burger.

Police said Audinett became loud and verbally abusive when the cop intervened and later swung his left hand at the officer while warning him not to interfere with him.

Audinett subsequently left the area in a vehicle, and police issued an all-points bulletin for his arrest. He was detained the following day and charged with aggravated assault.

After the facts were read in court Friday, Audinett agreed with the account and his guilty plea was accepted.

Outside the courtroom, however, Audinett said he still did not believe he was guilty but had grown tired of repeatedly attending court and preferred paying a fine to risking imprisonment.

“Ah wah tek ah fine any day over jail time,” Audinett said.
