By Zoila Palma: The Ya’axché Conservation Trust held a productive meeting today with the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Climate Change in Belmopan, reinforcing its commitment to national collaboration on environmental protection and climate resilience.
During the meeting, Ya’axché highlighted its ongoing work within the Maya Golden Landscape and across southern Belize, with a special focus on the Southern Belize Biological Corridor (SBBC) — a critical wildlife pathway that supports genetic diversity and the long-term health of ecosystems.
Representing the Ministry were CEO Milagro Matus and Director of the National Biodiversity Office, Saul Cruz, who engaged in discussions on aligning conservation initiatives with national sustainable development strategies.
Ya’axché emphasized that such high-level partnerships are essential to integrating biodiversity conservation into Belize’s broader climate and development goals.
By strengthening collaboration with government agencies, Ya’axché aims to ensure a resilient and biodiverse future for Belize.
