By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): An 18-year-old San Pedro Town man has been charged with two traffic offences after a pre-dawn patrol intercepted the golf cart he was driving, and checks revealed his licence was not only expired but issued for the wrong class of vehicle entirely.
According to the Belize Police Department, on Friday, July 31, 2026, at approximately 4:45 a.m., officers conducting mobile patrol along Sea Grape Drive observed a white four-seater golf cart being driven recklessly in a northerly direction. The cart was pursued and subsequently intercepted.
An officer identified himself and requested the driver’s licence. The driver identified himself as Ezekiel Chub, an 18-year-old housekeeper of the San Mateo Area. Examination of his licence revealed two problems: it had expired, and it was issued under Class D, which authorizes the operation of motorcycles only, not the Class A required to operate a golf cart.
Chub was informed of the offences of driving a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s licence in respect of class, and using a motor vehicle whilst not being covered by third-party risk insurance. He was cautioned, informed of his constitutional rights, and escorted along with the golf cart to the San Pedro Police Station.
At 6:45 a.m. that same morning, police formally arrested and charged Chub with both offences. Cautioned once more, he chose to remain silent.
