By Zoila Palma: The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has released the official list of names for the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season as part of its rotating system that extends through 2030.
The list includes 21 names, arranged alphabetically from A to W, with the letters Q and U omitted in accordance with standard naming conventions.
Among the names included for 2026 is Sally, a name that may be familiar to some communities impacted by past storms.
However, forecasters suggest that the likelihood of all listed names being used this season remains uncertain, depending on overall storm activity in the Atlantic basin.
According to AccuWeather’s early outlook, the 2026 hurricane season is expected to be near normal. Meteorologists point to the possible development of an El Niño pattern, which could contribute to less favorable conditions for hurricane formation and potentially limit the number of named storms.
The 2026 list of Atlantic hurricane names includes Arthur, Bertha, Cristobal, Dolly, Edouard, Fay, Gonzalo, Hanna, Isaias, Josephine, Kyle, Leah, Marco, Nana, Omar, Paulette, Rene, and Sally.
These names will be assigned sequentially to tropical storms as they develop throughout the season.
