World Autism Awareness Day 2024: Moving from Surviving to Thriving

This year’s theme is Moving from Surviving to Thriving.

In 2007, the United Nations General Assembly designated April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD).

World Autism Awareness Day 2024 is set aside to affirm and promote the full realization of all human rights and fundamental freedoms for autistic people on an equal basis with others.

The General Assembly resolution from 2007 (A/RES/62/139) emphasizes the importance of raising public awareness of autism.

“Today, 17 years later, we have moved beyond raising awareness to promoting acceptance and appreciation of autistic people and their contributions to society,” the U.N. noted.
