By Aaron Humes: The Belize Police Department, or more specifically, its female contingent, is set to lead the country’s first all-female law enforcement march in celebration of Women’s Month.
The march, described by Staff Officer Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacy Smith as a “first-of-a-kind” event, will showcase the strength and commitment of over 650 women in uniform from various branches of Belize’s defense forces, including the Belize Coast Guard and the Belize Defence Force.
The event is scheduled to kick off at 9:00 a.m. Monday, March 2, starting in front of the House of Culture, with participants proceeding along Regent Street and continuing onto Albert Street. The theme for the march, “Uniting Women in Law Enforcement for a Safer Belize,” underscores the contributions of women in maintaining law and order while promoting community safety.
“We would like to take this opportunity to encourage everyone, those of you who are able to come down in the area, schools in particular, to bring out the students and witness history in the making as we celebrate women in law enforcement,” Smith added.
The march aims to inspire and empower future generations of women, highlighting the important work of female officers in the community. With significant representation across various law enforcement agencies, this event marks an important step toward gender equality within Belize’s national security and defense sector.
