By Breaking Belize News Staff: A familiar face to the courts is back behind bars after her 11th drug-related conviction. Kerene Moss, 43, a resident of Taylor’s Alley, was sentenced after being found in possession of a crack pipe during a police patrol early Wednesday morning.

Moss, described as a well-known drug addict, was spotted by police officers releasing smoke from her mouth while holding a silver metal pipe, later confirmed to be an adapted utensil used for smoking crack cocaine. The incident occurred around 7:50 a.m. while officers were on routine patrol in Taylor’s Alley, a neighborhood notorious for drug activity.

She appeared unrepresented before newly appointed Magistrate Ludlow Black in Court #1 on Wednesday, where she pleaded guilty and requested a fine, stating that she did not want to return to prison.

During the hearing, Moss opened up about her struggles, recounting how she was put out of her mother’s house by her father and ended up addicted after being taken in by a Good Samaritan. Despite her long history with the court — including 10 previous convictions for similar offenses — Magistrate Black opted for a non-custodial sentence and fined her $400 plus $5 cost of court, due by May 30, 2025, or three months’ imprisonment in default.

However, Moss was unable to pay immediately and also had an outstanding court debt of $405, resulting in a warrant being issued for her to serve her sentence in prison.

Records show Moss’s last jail term began in October 2024, with earlier stints in June 2023 and January 2024 for similar offenses. Despite her repeated run-ins with the law, Magistrate Black expressed concern and a desire to understand her circumstances, hoping for a resolution that breaks the cycle.

Moss was taken into custody following the court session and remanded to Belize Central Prison.
