By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police are investigating a report that a woman was threatened at gunpoint and chased by a man in Esperanza Village on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.
The woman reported that she was picked up from a restaurant at around 7:30 p.m. by an acquaintance known as “Negro” or “Beliceño,” who claimed they were going to deliver a generator.
The woman said she was instead taken to an isolated yard, where the man allegedly demanded that she enter a zinc house. When she refused, he reportedly retrieved a black 9mm handgun from beneath the driver’s seat, chambered a round and threatened to kill her.
The man allegedly fired two shots into the air, destroyed her cellular phone and retained her purse, which contained $80, identification documents and bank cards.
The woman reportedly escaped by running to a neighbouring property and climbing over a fence while shouting for help. Police later responded and processed the scene for spent shells and the remains of the destroyed phone.
She has requested full court action.
