By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A dispute over an unpaid bill at an Orange Walk Town business ended with a woman being arrested, before the matter was ultimately resolved.
According to the Belize Police Department, the owner of a business on Queen Victoria Avenue reported that on Friday, July 3, 2026, a woman came into the establishment and opened a tab. She reportedly ordered several drinks and a plate of food, running up a bill of $153.
About an hour later, the owner said she approached the woman about payment, and was told not to worry, that she would pay. However, when pressed again, the woman continued to refuse to settle the bill, prompting the owner to call the Orange Walk Police Station.
When officers arrived, the woman was again asked to pay and again refused. She was informed of the offence, placed under arrest, and escorted to the police station, where she was identified as 30-year-old Sorangel Ayuso, a Belizean of Belize City. A statement was recorded from the complainant, who initially requested court action.
The matter appears to have since been settled. Police reported that the following day, the full $153 was paid to the business owner, who indicated she no longer wished to proceed.
