Woman accused of scamming Celebrity Restaurant out of thousands in food and drinks out on bail

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Jemine Patrice Thurton, a 25-year-old Belize City resident, found herself in hot water after allegedly scamming Celebrity Restaurant and Bar out of thousands of dollars in food and drinks. Thurton appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #3 on Monday, where she faced two counts of obtaining property by deception.

The allegations state that between March 24, 2024, and May 1, 2024, Thurton deceived Celebrity Restaurant and Bar into providing services and items totaling $3,228.00, including various dishes and an array of drinks. Among the items listed were two “Blow Jobs” drinks, Heineken, tequila, and a variety of other beverages, along with a range of food items.

Thurton pleaded not guilty to both charges. However, the prosecution raised no objection to her being granted bail. Consequently, the Senior Magistrate offered her bail in the sum of $5,000, along with one surety of the same amount, which she promptly met.

As part of the conditions for Thurton’s bail, she is prohibited from contacting the virtual complainant or any prosecution witnesses directly or indirectly, including through social media platforms. Any attempt to breach these conditions could result in the revocation of her bail.

The next court date for Thurton is scheduled for July 11, 2024.

The case came to light when the Administrator of Celebrity Restaurant, reported suspicious online payments made by Thurton. The restaurant noticed discrepancies in the dates and times of transactions totaling $3,228.00. Further investigation revealed that all transactions made by Thurton from her bank account to the restaurant’s account were illegitimate.

Upon scrutinizing Thurton’s order history, the administrator discovered a pattern of deception, with Thurton allegedly receiving deliveries and personally picking up orders without making legitimate payments.
