That leaves Espat, who currently holds the portfolio, waiting like everyone else.
The police ministry is one of the most demanding jobs in Government. It carries responsibility for public safety, crime fighting and the Belize Police Department. Whoever holds it will be under constant pressure to deliver results.
The question comes at a busy time for the Briceño administration. The Government is dealing with heightened tensions with Guatemala and preparing for the next stage of the territorial dispute at the International Court of Justice.
Until then, the speculation will continue. Will Espat be confirmed in the post, or will someone else step in?
