Will Commissioner of Police run for office?; Prime Minister says he is “competent and qualified”

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: As the People’s United Party (PUP) has opened applications for Standard bearers for constituencies across the country, rumors have been swirling about potential aspirants.

One such potential aspirant is Commissioner of Police Chester Williams.

Prime Minister John Briceno says that like any other Belizean, the Commissioner could apply.

“I mean everyone should have the right to put their name as long as they can be productive legislators and politicians that want to be able to address the problems we are facing in this country,” the Prime Minister said.

“Well, I think that he has a lot of competency. He has shown that he is about public service. He has been a police officer for several decades and highly qualified,” he added.

“I think he is liked and respected by most everyone, except the leader of the opposition. I wonder why,” he further said.
