By Zoila Palma: During cabinet’s meeting on May 12, 2026, cabinet approved measures to enhance wildlife enforcement and slow the decline of wildlife populations in Belize.
This will include repealing and replacing the current Wildlife Protection Act of 1981 with a Wildlife Conservation and Management Bill.
In addition, a one-year moratorium on the hunting and capturing of the white-lipped peccary, yellow-headed Amazon parrot, and brown brocket deer will be introduced.
