Why did they kill “Pie Bwai?” Police looking at motive for shocking murder of Wayne Myles, 61

By Aaron Humes: It is the question just about every Belize City resident who knew him, and even those who did not, are asking: Why did gunmen target 61-year-old Wayne Myles, alias “Pie Bwai” or “Jam Roll Man,” in his 11th Street, King’s Park residence late Friday night?

According to police, Myles was at home when a single shooter entered the yard and fired once in the air. Myles opened a window and was hit with one of two subsequent shots, which killed him on the spot. The killer escaped in a getaway vehicle.

Surveillance video footage has been collected for review. So far, police note that another resident of the yard has been previously charged with gang-related activity, but they cannot say that he was the intended target.

What is known for sure, per Staff Officer Assistant Superintendent Stacy Smith, is that “by all indications, Myles was a very loved individual who is not known to be engaged in any nefarious activities.” She added that police have no reason to believe Myles was the intended target, but that they are looking into his connections to others who may be involved in criminal activity. Investigations continue.
