By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Statement from Cabinet has indicated that it has agreed that an independent investigation be carried out into the alleged abduction of Joseph Budna on August 22 in Orange Walk Town.
However, specifics of the report will remain secret after it was also agreed that none of the officers assigned to the inquiry led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Suzette Anderson would be allowed to “make any statements to the [press or otherwise publicly] in order to safeguard the integrity of the investigation in the event that the matter is addressed in a court of law.” Budna has filed via his attorneys a Constitutional claim alleging multiple violations of his rights under law.
The report does make clear that there is no evidence implicating Commissioner of Police Dr Richard Rosado in involvement in the alleged abduction of Budna, and so his administrative leave has been ordered lifted and he is to return to active duty immediately, having been absent since the beginning of September.
The recommendations have been referred to Attorney General Anthony Sylvester for further action.
