Belize, let’s talk.
We love to say we’re a free country. Free press. Free speech. Free to criticize. But the truth? Some people are off-limits. Say the wrong name, ask the wrong question, or expose the wrong deal—and suddenly, you’re the problem.
Try calling out the tycoon who owns half of downtown. Or the political puppet-master who never shows up on a ballot. Or the expat empire snapping up beachfront while locals scrape by. Try it—and watch how fast you get shut down.
That’s not freedom. That’s control.
In Belize, real power doesn’t always wear a title. It hides behind influence, inside deals, and family names that never leave the headlines—or courtrooms. And the surest way to spot who’s in charge? See who you’re warned not to talk about.
The silence around power is no accident. It’s designed.
But here’s the thing—Belizeans have never been afraid to speak up. So maybe it’s time to stop whispering about the untouchables and start shouting. Loudly. Because if we can’t criticize them, then we’ve already given them more power than they deserve.
