By Zoila Palma: Leader of the Opposition Tracy Panton continues to call for clarity in the Joseph Budna incident.
“Who gave the orders to have Joseph Budna to be severely beaten, restrained and handed over to hostile territory,” Panton questions.
“It seems that everybody who had the responsibility to know and are now suggesting that they did not know what happened on the night of 22nd August 2025, even though they are provided a security brief daily. This Mr. Prime Minister is simply too big a pill for Belizeans to swallow. We, the citizens of Belize, demand that you act and act decisively,” Panton added.
Panton called on officials to release the “incomplete incident report” and make available the surveillance videos that recorded what happened.
Panton also called for the Government to appoint an independent task force that will lead the investigation into this matter.
“The Police Department ca not investigate the Police Department under these Hightower questionable circumstances.
Replace the Commissioner of Police. The reputation of the department has been severely compromised under his watch in a record amount of time. Belizeans must be able to trust the Police High Command,” Panton expressed.
Panton said that they should request “the immediate return of Joseph Budna to Belize given the questionable circumstances around his abduction.”
