By Aaron Humes: Police say they have hauled in one suspect and are looking for at least two others following a costly vehicle arson reported on Sunday morning on Princess Margaret Drive, Belize City.
Responding police found a 2022 Cadillac Escalade, valued at $250,000; an Audi Q7, valued at $150,000; and a Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck, valued at $75,000, all in flames. After Fire Service personnel extinguished the blazes, damage was observed to the front portions of each vehicle. According to Bob Hotchandani, the owner of the Escalade and Audi, he had parked the former around 4:55 in the morning after arriving home and minutes later, three men landed in a boat. They approached the vehicles, setting them on fire after pouring a flammable liquid substance. The Silverado is owned by his son Sanjay Hotchandani.
Police retrieved a container containing remains of suspected accelerant. According to ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding Eastern Division, “We have not established any motive at this time, an investigation continues.” That investigation includes finding out whether the suspect has any relation or connection to the vehicle owners. The vehicles are all insured.
