Wet weekend ahead for Belize as showers increase

By Horace Palacio: The National Meteorological Service has issued a forecast predicting increased shower activity across Belize, starting tonight. While today will see a mix of sunshine and cloudy spells, with isolated showers mainly affecting central and offshore areas this morning and inland areas this afternoon, the weather is set to become wetter as we head into the weekend.

Tonight, coastal regions can expect an increase in showers, with the possibility of some thunderstorms. This unsettled weather will continue into Saturday, with showers, periods of light rain, and a few thunderstorms affecting mainly the coast in the morning before spreading to most areas by the afternoon.

Despite the increased rainfall, temperatures will remain warm, with highs of 86°F (30°C) along the coast and 88°F (31°C) inland.

The good news for Belizeans is that there is no threat of tropical cyclone formation in the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, or Gulf of Mexico over the next 48 hours.

This forecast comes as Belize experiences a relatively calm period in the latter part of the 2024 hurricane season. While the season has seen some activity, including Tropical Storm Alberto and Hurricane Beryl, Belize has been fortunate to avoid any major impacts.
