By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The National Meteorological Service reports that moist and unstable weather will continue to influence Belize today, Saturday, September 20, just ahead of the country’s Independence Day. Mostly cloudy skies are forecast, with showers, periods of rain, and thunderstorms affecting the country this morning. Conditions will ease this afternoon before redeveloping again tonight.
Winds will blow from the east to southeast at 5 to 15 knots. The sea state will be light chop with waves of 2 to 4 feet.
Temperatures are forecasted at 88°F/78°F along the coast, 93°F/73°F inland, and 78°F/67°F in the hills.
An excessive rainfall watch is in place as 2 to 4 inches of rain are possible across the country, particularly in central and southern regions, within the next 48 hours. Residents in flood-prone communities are urged to remain vigilant and follow flood advisories from the National Hydrological Service.
A small craft caution is also in effect for gusty winds and locally rough seas near showers and thunderstorms.
Tropical Storm Gabrielle, located northeast of the northern Leeward Islands early this morning, poses no threat to Belize. The system has sustained winds of 50 mph and is moving northwest at 13 mph.
For Independence Day on Sunday, Belizeans can expect similar weather patterns, showers in the morning, a brief decrease in the afternoon, and redeveloping rain and thunderstorms at night. Celebrants are advised to prepare for rainy conditions during the holiday festivities.
