By Aaron Humes: United Democratic Party (UDP) Leader Tracy Panton has marked a new chapter in the party’s history by taking over the UDP headquarters, which had fallen into disrepair. After a swift cleanup effort, Panton invited supporters, standard bearers, and the media to showcase the renovated headquarters. The event aimed to demonstrate the party’s renewed unity and commitment to rebuilding.

In her opening statement, Panton emphasized the party’s mission to restore unity, strengthen democracy, and preserve integrity. She also highlighted the importance of engaging with various stakeholders, including unions, civil society actors, churches, and the business community: “You see, there are some of us who believe that integrity doesn’t have any currency or integrity doesn’t have any value. But I will tell you that the future of the UDP will be built on the currency and value of our collective integrity.”
The UDP’s financial situation is also being addressed, with Panton revealing that donations have been pouring in after the party showcased the headquarters’ deplorable state: “We are doing a comprehensive assessment of what we need and where the party is in terms of its liabilities. We’re now in that process. But I would tell you there has been no shortage of those who are prepared to give a little and those who are prepared to give more than their fair share.”

Key initiatives include expanding the party’s delegate pool to prevent corruption and ensure wider representation. Currently, each constituency has 16 delegates, but Panton plans to revisit this number to make it more representative of the party’s supporters: “…as part of our constitutional reform, that matter will be revisited. It has my support and I believe it will have the support of the wider UDP base.”
