By Zoila Palma: Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center (NHC) are monitoring a tropical wave located about 800 miles east of the Windward Islands that continues to produce widespread showers and thunderstorms across the Atlantic.
The system is moving westward at roughly 20 miles per hour, and while gradual development is possible over the coming days, its short-term formation chances remain low.
Regardless of development, heavy rainfall and gusty winds are expected to impact the Windward Islands on Sunday and Sunday night before the system tracks across the Caribbean Sea through much of next week.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) gives the disturbance a 0% chance of formation within 48 hours and a 30% chance within seven days.
In the North Atlantic, a separate non-tropical low-pressure system has formed several hundred miles east-northeast of Bermuda.
Meteorologists say there is a slight possibility it could acquire some subtropical characteristics before turning northeastward into cooler waters by Sunday. The NHC places its formation chance at 10% through both 48 hours and seven days.
