By Zoila Palma: The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring two systems in the Atlantic, including one that could soon develop into a tropical storm.
The first, located about 500 miles south-southeast of Bermuda, has organized into an area of low pressure showing strong signs of development.
Forecasters say a tropical depression is likely to form later today or tonight, with further strengthening into a tropical storm possible by Sunday as the system moves northward.
Meanwhile, another system east of the Windward Islands is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms.
The tropical wave, about 850 miles east of the islands, is moving westward at roughly 20 mph.
While only limited development is expected, forecasters warn that heavy rain and gusty winds could affect parts of the Windward Islands Sunday into Monday.
By midweek, unfavorable conditions in the central Caribbean are expected to limit the system’s chances of further strengthening.
