By Zoila Palma: The Ministry of Human Development, Family Support and Gender Affairs is encouraging Belizeans to wear purple on Thursday, October 29, in solidarity with survivors of domestic and intimate partner violence.
The initiative comes as Domestic Violence Awareness Month draws to a close, with the Ministry emphasizing that efforts to prevent abuse must continue beyond October.
The Ministry is inviting people across the country to participate by wearing purple at work, school, home or in their communities. The campaign aims to raise awareness and promote a future where everyone can live free from fear, violence and abuse.
“Wear purple. Start a conversation. Raise awareness. Stand together,” the Ministry urged, encouraging participants to take photographs of themselves wearing purple and share them on social media to help spread the message.
The Ministry stressed that the end of Domestic Violence Awareness Month does not mean the end of the responsibility to address abuse.
