By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 66-year-old Belize City fisherman was fined in the Magistrate’s Court this week after pleading guilty to possession of an article with a blade exceeding the legal length.
Sherman Flowers, who told the court he uses the knife to scrape fish on his boat, appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Mannon Dennison in Court #6, where he immediately entered a guilty plea to the charge.
Police reported that around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 30, 2025, Flowers was found on Mahogany Street with a silver-handled knife carrying a 5-inch blade, two inches longer than what the law permits a person to possess in public without reasonable excuse.
As a first-time offender, Flowers was fined $50 plus $5 cost of court, and must pay the amount by December 31, 2025, or face two weeks in prison in default.
