‘We need to be ready to go at the first whistle’ – Belize Women’s National Team Captain Sabrina Eiley on 2nd game against Bermuda

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Despite defeating higher-ranked Bermuda 2-0 on Thursday, Belize Women’s National Team Captain Sabrina Eiley says Belize need to settle fast and go after Bermuda from the get go when they meet again on Sunday at 4:00 pm at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan.

“As a team in general, we were a bit hasty on some plays in the first half,” Eiley told Breaking Belize News.

“It took us a while to get settled. Coming into the game in the second half, we were settled and able to move the ball around to create more plays. For the next game, we need to be ready to go at the first whistle and not take long to get into our groove.”

Eiley said that now that they moved up to Concacaf League B, the BWNT need to step up their level because the opponents will be more demanding.

“The game was definitely intense, as we expected. Bermuda is in League B, so we anticipated a faster, more physical, and challenging game,” Eiley said.

Eiley said on Friday that the BWNT needed to be better prepared for Sunday’s match “by improving where we fell short and continuing to strengthen our tactics”.

According to Eiley all the players, though a number suffered minor injuries in Thursday’s match, will be able to suit up on Sunday.

The matches against Bermuda are part of the BWNT’s preparation for their participation in the Concacaf League B championship. Next month, they’ll travel to Cuba for another pair of matches.
