By Deborah Reneau: My people, BUCKLE UP! BUCKLE UP!

I don’t think we fully realize the seriousness of the times we are living in. We are no longer just dealing with an economic crisis. We are living in what I call an ECONOMIC SURVIVAL ERA!

And when I say buckle up, I mean it!

We have reached a point where one job is simply not enough for many of us. People are working hard, showing up every day, doing their best, and still struggling to make ends meet. By the time you pay your bills, buy groceries, put fuel in your vehicle, and take care of your family, you wonder where all the money went!

And the sad reality is that some people are working two jobs and still struggling!

My people, we have to start thinking differently.

We are living in a time when we can no longer buy everything we WANT. We have to focus on what we NEED and what we can AFFORD. That doesn’t mean we should stop dreaming or enjoying life. It simply means we have to become more intentional about how we manage our money.

And let me say something else. If there was ever a time when we needed basic accounting and budgeting skills, THAT TIME IS NOW!

We need to know how much money is coming in, how much is going out, and where every dollar is going. Sometimes we don’t realize how much we spend on little things until we sit down and add everything up.

But here is something I want us to understand. Sometimes budgeting alone is not enough. You can cut back, sacrifice, and stretch your money as much as possible, but when your income simply cannot cover your basic needs, something has to change.

And that brings me to another important point.

MY PEOPLE, WHAT ELSE CAN YOU DO?

What skill do you have that could bring in some extra money? Can you bake? Cook? Sew? Tutor? Do hair? Create something? Offer a service? Teach someone a skill?

What is that one thing you have been thinking about doing but keep putting off?

Maybe it is time to stop just thinking about it and start exploring the possibilities.

Now, I know that not everyone has the time, resources, or energy to take on another job or start a business. Some people are already stretched to their limits. But where there is an opportunity to develop another source of income, I believe we need to seriously consider it.

And please, don’t underestimate small beginnings. That little business you start from home, that skill you develop, or that service you offer on weekends might eventually make a difference in your financial situation.

We also need to teach our children about money. Teach them the difference between wants and needs. Teach them to save, to budget, and to understand that money doesn’t just appear because we want something. These are life skills that will serve them long
