By Horace Palacio: The National Meteorological Service of Belize is reporting pleasant weather conditions across the country today, with sunny skies and a few cloudy spells. Temperatures are expected to climb to a high of 90°F (32°C) along the coast, reaching 94°F (34°C) further inland. Residents of the hills can expect a slightly milder day with temperatures peaking at 81°F (27°C).
While Belize enjoys this tranquil weather, Hurricane Milton is churning in the Caribbean Sea. At 6:00 am today, Milton was located approximately 100 miles northeast of Progreso, Mexico, packing maximum sustained winds of 145 mph. This makes Milton a powerful Category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. The storm is currently moving east-northeast at 12 mph, and its projected path bears close watching. Though Milton does not pose an immediate threat to Belize, its progress should be monitored closely as hurricane tracks can shift.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Leslie is located far out in the Atlantic Ocean, posing no threat to Belize.
Boaters can expect moderate west to southwest winds at 10-20 knots, leading to choppy seas with waves reaching 3-5 feet.
The forecast for Wednesday and Wednesday night is for a continuation of these fair weather conditions.
