Wake, candlelight vigil and funeral arrangements announced for Wayne Wellington “Pie Bwai” Myles

By Aaron Humes: Wayne Wellington Myles, affectionately known as ‘Pie Bwai’, departed this life on Friday, November 28, at the age of 61. Myles was a beloved son, brother, uncle, friend, and a true Belizean icon.

Two wakes and a candlelight vigil will be held in his honor beginning on Friday, December 5, continuing on Saturday, December 6, and ending on Sunday, December 7, at his residence located at 11th Street, King’s Park, starting at 6:00 p.m.

The Belize City Council advises that 11th Street will be closed on Friday from 5:30 p.m. for the vigil and memorial service. The route goes from 11th Street to G Street, Sixth Street, Saint Thomas Street, Freetown Road through Cinderella Plaza, Baymen Avenue, Second Street, Landivar Street, Sixth Street, G Street and ending at 11th Street. Motorists are advised to exercise caution when traveling these streets.

A service to celebrate his life and honor his legacy will be held on Monday, December 8, at Trinity Methodist Church. The casket will be received at 12:00 noon, and the service will commence at 1:00 p.m. A procession will follow through the streets of Belize City, making its way to Eternal Garden Memorial Cemetery, 13 Miles George Price Highway.

Myles is survived by his father, Hugh Wellington Myles, and six siblings. Though he had no children of his own, he was a beloved uncle to many nieces, nephews, and children in his community. His love and service inspired generations of Belizeans at home and abroad.

Myles’ killer and his accomplice remain at large.
