By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Volleyball enthusiasts and aspiring officials are gathering this weekend at San Pedro High School for a three-day Introduction to Referee Course hosted by the San Pedro Volleyball Association in collaboration with the Belize Volleyball Association (BVA).
The course, which runs from Friday, September 5 to Sunday, September 7, offers participants a rare opportunity to train under international referee instructors—a major step toward elevating officiating standards in Belizean volleyball. Sessions begin Friday evening at 7:30 pm and continue Saturday and Sunday mornings at 9:30 am.
The course is designed for beginners and community members eager to deepen their understanding of the game, whether for officiating, coaching, or simply supporting local teams with greater insight. The training is free of charge, and while registration closed on Tuesday, September 2, interest in the event has been strong, reflecting the growing momentum of volleyball development across the country.
With Belizean volleyball gaining traction both nationally and regionally, initiatives like this referee course are key to ensuring the sport’s growth is matched by quality officiating and community engagement.
