By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A man from Santa Rosa Village, Stann Creek District, has been arrested and charged with sexual assault following a report made by a woman in the community.
According to the Belize Police Department, the complainant, a 61-year-old Belizean woman, reported that the incident took place on Saturday, June 27, 2026, as she was walking through the village on her way to a relative’s home. She told police that a man she recognised approached her and assaulted her, before attempting to grab her purse and pushing her. She said she managed to hold on to her belongings and rushed to a family member’s house for safety, after which she requested court action.
Police recorded a statement from the complainant. On Wednesday, July 1, 2026, officers met the accused at the Independence Police Station, informed him of the report made against him, cautioned him, and advised him of his constitutional rights.
That same day, police swore to an information and complaint, obtained a warrant, and formally arrested and charged 25-year-old Brian Anthony Shal, a naturalized Belizean of Santa Rosa Village, with the crime of sexual assault.
As with any criminal matter, Shal is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
