By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 52-year-old customs broker accused of assaulting two female police officers found himself in further trouble with the law on Tuesday after being detained for questioning in connection with a recent murder investigation in Belize City.
Victor Arana, also known as “Skanks,” appeared before a Senior Magistrate in Belize City, where he was charged with two counts of aggravated assault against Sergeant Lydia Joseph and Corporal Stephanie Vasquez.
Police allege that Arana assaulted the officers during an incident in Hattieville on November 1, 2026.
According to the allegations, Arana pushed a sergeant and struck her in the chest. He is also accused of striking a corporal her left shoulder while she was executing her duties.
Arana pleaded not guilty to both charges.
With no objection from the prosecution, the Magistrate granted him bail of $2,000 plus one surety of the same amount. As a condition of his release, Arana was ordered not to contact either complainant or any witnesses in the case.
His next court appearance was scheduled for January 6, 2027.
However, before Arana could complete the bail process, police detained him and escorted him to the Crimes Investigation Branch at the Queen Street Police Station for questioning in connection with one of Belize City’s recent murders.
It remains unclear which murder investigation police are pursuing or what information prompted investigators to seek Arana for questioning.
No murder-related charge against Arana had been reported at the time of his detention.
