Vibrant, young mom of 3 loses battle to cervical cancer in Cervical Cancer awareness month

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The San Ignacio and Santa Elena community is reeling from the loss of Lorena Garcia, a young and vibrant mom of 3 beautiful children that lost the battle with cancer this morning.

Lorena passed away at her home in Santa Elena, Cayo after months of pain and suffering.

Lorena ‘Curls’ shared via her social media page, the struggle with cervical cancer and her community came together to support at the many fundraising events for medical expenses.

January is recognized globally as Cervical Cancer Awareness Month and Shalue Butcher O’Brien and the Belize Cancer Society are launching a campaign to raise awareness on cervical cancer.

“I promise to work and fight harder for Cervical Cancer Awareness! Our plans to advocate will continue. Your death will never be in vain. Fly with the angels my Chica Bonita, Curls Garcia,” Shalue expressed.

As a cancer patient, Lorena was involved in participating in Cancer Walks and raising awareness and urged Shalue to continue raising awareness to women across the country.
