By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Belize City Council in collaboration with the Belize National Celebrations Commission and amazing local artists celebrate Belize@43 through artistic expression.
Today, the vibrant Belize@43 mural was unveiled in Belize City.
The images depicted aren’t merely art—they are the very stamp symbols commemorating Belize’s first Independence Day 43 years ago.
“The care and thought put into this mural reflect the deep connection our young artists have with the spirit of Belizean independence, guided by Gilvano Swasey and designed by Angelita Reyes, with support from the creative students of Wesley School’s Upper Division,” the Belize City Council noted.
The Belize City Council extended gratitude to Francis Fonseca and the National Celebrations Commission, Lead Artist Gilvano Swasey, our youth artists, and the dedicated local students and teachers—your creativity lights the way!
The council also thanked the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, and Technology and the National Institute of Culture and History.
“A special thanks to the National Sports Council for allowing us to use Roger’s Stadium fence as the canvas for this remarkable creation,” the council added.
May this mural remind us of our shared history as we celebrate Belize’s independence under the theme: “A Nation Proud & Free, Belize @43!”
