By Aaron Humes: The High Court will deliver a verdict in the manslaughter case of 35-year-old Shane Jones on December 19, six days before Christmas, after trial concluded on Monday before High Court Justice Nigel Pilgrim.
Jones is accused of unlawfully, but not intentionally, causing the death of Edwin Usher on November 27, 2020, after Usher was knocked semiconscious, later dying in a coma.
Jones originally got into a fight with another man at the Li Zheng Bar and Game Shop and then allegedly punched Usher, a bystander, in the face, knocking him to the ground, before allegedly stomping him twice in the head before an intervention.
In the absence of a key eyewitness who stopped the fight but refused to testify and could not be located, video footage from the scene was used in the case. Jones denies the charge and claims he was acting in self-defense. He is represented by defense counsel Norman Moore.
Jones was originally charged with murder but the charges were reduced months later and he was released on bail pending trial.
