Verdes thank National Sports Council, Benque Viejo del Carmen Town Council, fans for one-day Western Championship

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: After winning the one-day Western Championship over other Cayo teams, Verdes thanked the National Sports Council, the Benque Viejo Town Council, and their fans for the tournament organized by National Sports Council Deputy Director Marvin Ottley.

“We wish to express our gratitude to the National Sports Council and in particular the Belize City crew that managed the quadrangular [Saturday]. The 2 matches played were very useful for our preparation,” Verdes said in a statement posted on social media.

The tournament was put together by Ottley and carried out by the FFB’s Kursha Pollard and the NSC’s Jarret Davis.

Verdes, who were eliminated by subsequent champions Altitude in the 2023-24 Premier League of Belize Opening Season semifinals and who are aiming at regaining the Premier League of Belize championship which kicks off on January 13, also thanked their team and coaching staff.

“Thanks to our Green Machine and coaching staff for the renewed drive as champions that we are. We saw your green hearts and commitment last night. Thanks to our youth players that stepped up and demonstrated that they also are ready and belong at the top league,” the Verdes statement said.

Verdes also thanked Benque Viejo del Carmen Mayor Jorge Rosales and the Town Council for the support and collaboration in hosting the Western Championship that also had the participation of runners up Benque Viejo United, Benque-based Cayo West Selection that finished in third place, and Police Benque (Club Deportivo Benque).

Verdes also thanked their fans for the support.

“Lastly a big thank you to our loyal fans from San Ignacio and surrounds and especially those from Benque Viejo for still believing in us,” Verdes said.

“We [are] committed to taking the necessary measures to get our Verdes FC in the best competitive condition and we are doing so.”
