By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Verdes to play two friendly games against Guatemalan clubs; one today in Belmopan and the other in Guatemala on Sunday.
Verdes General Manager Lorin Frazer said the Green Machine are facing Guatemala First Division League team Deportivo San Benito FC on Wednesday at 7:00 pm at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen.
San Benito lost 5-2 to Port Layola’s Central America Cup rival, Antigua GFC last week and drew 2-2 with Xelajú MC last Sunday. Both Antigua and Xelajú are Guatemala National Football League clubs.
“San Benito is also preparing for their opening season and are coming fully loaded with their top players including foreigners,” Verdes FC said in a social media post.
Verdes will then travel to the city of Chicastenanago, Department of Quiché, to face the Guatemala Second Division League team Chichicasteco FC. The match will be on Sunday, July 21, at 11:00 am at the Estadio Tzocomá in Chichicastenango.
Chichicastenago is approximately 395 miles from the Guatemalan border town of Melchor de Mencos.
In Guatemala, the Guatemala First Division League is the second tier under the Guatemala National Football League that features clubs like Municipal and Comunicaciones. Guatemala’s Second Division League is the third tier league.
Verdes and the Guatemalan clubs are preparing for the kick off of their league championships.
