By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Verdes FC are paying tribute to one of their most devoted supporters, George Harold Alexander Frazer, who passed away on January 23, 2026, and is being laid to rest Saturday, January 31, in San Ignacio. Frazer, remembered as a pillar of Belizean education and a steadfast Verdes fan from the club’s earliest days, leaves behind a legacy of leadership, courage, and unwavering community spirit.

In their official message of condolence, Verdes FC described Frazer as “an educator, a union leader, and above all, a true Verdes heart and die‑hard Green Machine.” The club extended their deepest sympathies to their president, Lorin Frazer, and player, Zion Frazer, saying: “He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. May the Good Lord grant comfort, strength, and peace to Lorin and Zion Frazer and their family during this difficult time.”

Frazer’s connection to Verdes dates back decades. He followed the Green Machine through championship runs, rebuilding years, and every era in between. Friends and club members recall him as a man who carried the team in his heart, celebrated their victories with pride, and supported their players with genuine affection.

But Frazer’s influence extended far beyond the football field. As a long‑serving President of the Belize National Teachers Union (BNTU), he became one of the country’s most respected labour leaders. He championed teachers’ rights, fought for fair salaries, and pushed tirelessly for improved working conditions. His advocacy shaped national policy and strengthened the voice of educators across Belize.

The memorial announcement released by his family described him as “Forever loved, deeply missed, and always remembered,” and honoured him by his well‑known nickname, “The Lion.” The tribute highlighted his life of service, noting his birth on February 1, 1947, and his passing on January 23, 2026.

Funeral services were scheduled for Saturday morning at the Sacred Heart College Auditorium in San Ignacio, to be followed by interment at the San Ignacio Town Cemetery. A repast was scheduled to follow at the same venue.

As Verdes FC prepare for their Week 3 match on Sunday, the club carry the memory of a supporter whose passion for football matched his passion for justice, education, and community upliftment. George Frazer’s legacy will continue to echo in the stands, in the classrooms he fought for, and in the hearts of all who knew him.
