By Rubén Morales Iglesias: PLB champions Verdes FC have officially begun preparations for their title defense, kicking off training last week as they gear up for the upcoming Premier League of Belize 2025–2026 Closing Championship. The Green Machine, fresh off their triumphant run in the Opening Championship, are aiming to repeat and secure back‑to‑back league titles.
The club confirmed the start of preseason work in a social media post on Sunday, signaling both continuity and renewed ambition as the new tournament approaches. “It’s preparation time and your Green Machine commenced training last week. Look out for our new local and foreign players. VERDES FOR LIFE,” the club wrote.
Building on Championship Momentum
Verdes enter the Closing Championship as the team to beat following a consistent, disciplined, and undefeated Opening Championship campaign that saw them lift the trophy after a 1-0 aggregate Final win over Progresso FC. With a strong core returning and reinforcements expected, the club is positioning itself to maintain its dominance.
Training sessions in San Ignacio have focused on fitness, tactical structure, and integrating new faces into the squad. While the club has not yet announced its full roster changes, the mention of both local and international additions has already sparked anticipation among supporters.

Champions Will Debut on Week 2
While the Closing Championship kicks off on the weekend of January 17–18 with three league matches across the country, Verdes will not feature on opening weekend. Instead, the champions will make their first appearance on Saturday, January 24, when they host Wagiya SC at 7:30 pm at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen.
The later debut gives Verdes additional time to sharpen fitness, integrate new signings, and build rhythm before stepping onto the pitch for the first time since being crowned Opening Champions.
Eyes on Another Title
The Green Machine’s objective is clear: defend the crown. With rivals strengthening and the league expected to be even more competitive, Verdes’ early start to training underscores their intent to stay ahead of the pack.
As the PLB prepares for the Closing Championship, Verdes fans are already rallying behind their team, eager to see how the champions evolve in the coming weeks.
The road to another title has begun in Cayo, and the Green Machine are wasting no time.
