By Rubén Morales Iglesias: 🟢Verdes FC confirmed late Monday that Mexican coach Luis Antonio Valdés Salas has been appointed as the club’s new head coach, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the Benque Viejo side as they continue their Premier League of Belize campaign. Valdés takes over from fellow Mexican coach Manuel “Manu” Can, who recently departed the club.

In its announcement, Verdes described Valdés Salas as “a former striker in the Mexican top league and national team,” highlighting the extensive experience he brings both as a player and as a coach. The club added that he arrives with nearly 30 years of experience in Mexican professional football, is a licensed Mexican Football Federation (FMF) Professional Technical Director, and has won league titles at multiple levels, including youth and professional divisions.

As a coach, Valdés has led and developed teams such as Club Necaxa, Querétaro, Tampico Madero, and several professional development squads, earning a strong reputation for player development, tactical structure, and competitive success.

🇲🇽 A former topflight striker with World Cup pedigree

Before transitioning into coaching, Valdés enjoyed a successful playing career in Mexico’s top division. He competed with Chivas, where he won a League Championship, and with Monterrey, where he lifted a Copa title.

He also proudly represented Mexico at the 1994 FIFA World Cup, sharing the pitch with some of the country’s most iconic footballers, including Hugo Sánchez, Jorge Campos, Claudio Suárez, Zague, and Luis García — a generation widely regarded as one of the most influential in Mexican football history.

Named ‘El Cadáver’ (The Corpse) during his playing career, Valdés arrives very much alive — and Verdes will be counting on him to keep their championship reign intact.

🟢 A coach shaped by elite football environments

Valdés Salas arrives with a résumé that spans multiple levels of Mexican football, combining his background as a top‑flight striker with decades of experience in coaching, player development, and tactical leadership. His exposure to high‑performance environments — including time alongside national‑team legends — aligns with Verdes’ ambition to strengthen its technical structure and elevate its competitive standards.

Verdes said it looks forward to “a new era of growth, competitiveness, and success under his leadership.”

The club closed its message with a warm welcome that reflects its strong identity and culture:

“¡Bienvenido, Profesor! Verdes for life.”

🟢 A new direction for a title contender

The Mexican coach takes charge immediately, inheriting a squad firmly in the title race. His early priorities will include stabilizing the team’s form, reinforcing its tactical identity, and guiding Verdes through the decisive stretch of the season.

The club’s leadership is confident that Valdés’ arrival will bring renewed discipline, clarity, and competitive edge as Verdes aims to remain among the league’s top contenders.
