Vehicle erupts in smoke in Orange Walk after attempted start

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Orange Walk police and fire personnel responded to an incident on Sapodilla Street where a white Volkswagen Jetta, license plate C-14591, was seen smoking heavily from its engine bay. The vehicle, owned by Sureidy Torres, had been parked on the left side of the street facing Mahogany Street when the fire began.

Initial investigations indicate that Erwin Torres, 39, a self-employed resident of Rain Tree Drive in Orange Walk, had used his sister’s vehicle to take his niece to Louisiana School. Upon returning and attempting to start the car, smoke and flames suddenly erupted from the engine area.

Firefighters arrived promptly and managed to extinguish the blaze before it spread beyond the engine compartment. No injuries were reported, and the value of the damage to the vehicle remains unknown.

Police have advised Torres and the owner, Sureidy Torres, to visit the Orange Walk Police Station to file a formal report as investigations continue.
