UPR hosts Writing Workshop with Dahlma Llanos-Figueroa

Sponsored by the English Department (College of Humanities), with the Department of Comparative Literature, Proyecto de Afrodescendencia y Racialización, and the Program in Gender and Women’s Studies (College of General Studies), a Writing Workshop with Dahlma Llanos-Figueroa will take place on Thursday, February 29, 2024, from 4:30 to 6:30pm, at the Richardson Seminar Room at the University of Puerto Rico-Río Piedras. Dahlma Llanos-Figueroa is an Afro-Puerto Rican novelist, short-story writer and memoirist. She was born in Puerto Rico and raised in the Bronx. Her works detailing the Afro-Latina experience have been featured in various literary magazines, journals and anthologies, including Chicken Soup for the Latino SoulBronx Memoir Project, the Afro-Hispanic Review and Kweli Journal. Her first novel, Daughters of the Stone, was selected as a finalist for the 2010 PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize. Her work has also received numerous awards including the BRIO Award for Fiction and Creative Nonfiction and the ACE Award for Fiction from the Bronx Council on the Arts. Her second novel, A Woman of Endurance, a historical work about slavery in Puerto Rico, was published in April 2022 (HarperCollins).
