By Zoila Palma: On March 2, 2026, the Belize Police Department joined other agencies in the official opening ceremony for Women’s Month 2026.
The event was held at the House of Culture Compound in Belize City.
This year’s theme was “Uniting Women in Law Enforcement for a Safer Belize.”
The event officially kicked off Women’s Month activities and highlighted how important women are in our security forces and their role in keeping our nation safe.
It featured inspiring speeches from the commanders of the Belize Defence Force, Brig. General Anthony Velasquez; the Belize Coast Guard, Rear Admiral Lower Half, Gregory Soberanis; the Belize Police Department, Dr. A. Richard Rosado; and also the guest speaker, the Governor General of Belize, Dame Froyla Tzalam.
All speakers emphasized how important it is to stand together, be resilient, empower one another, and work together with the community.
“This year’s theme is all about solidarity among women in law enforcement. It emphasizes the need for stronger leadership, encouragement through mentorship, and striving for excellence in their professions. By coming together, women officers are breaking down barriers, leading with integrity, and making meaningful contributions to create safer communities in Belize,” the Belize Police Department noted.
