By Zoila Palma: Today, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise (MAFSE), the Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA) and the International Regional Organization for Agricultural Health (OIRSA) received tools and equipment valued at more than $9,000.
The equipment and tools included office equipment, boots, Leatherman utility knives and other equipment used in the fight against the New World Screwworm.
The Ministry noted that the equipment and tools will be used by extension officers and field personnel as the go about daily duties battling the NWScrewworm.
The equipment and tools are courtesy funds provided by USDA/APHIS as they provide support to the region in the campaign to eradicate the screwworm.
Training and organizational support have also been provided to Central American countries to ensure they are prepared to combat the screwworm.
The Ministry noted that Belize currently has the lowest number of screwworm cases in Central America.
